Prevent Strained Voice
To prevent strained voice, you need to take care of your voice Before-During-After:
Before: Do not drink coffee, tea and milk. Coffee & tea take moisture from your body, which will also dry your vocal folds (cable). Milk creates phlegm. Drink warm water.
During: Learn the correct way of breathing, that is to breathe with your diaphragm support, and the power of your voice through resonance. This way, you can talk as long as you want!
After: If you lose your voice, do not talk, especially whisper (it adds more pressure on your vocal folds). Drink more water. Steam bath if possible. Or inhaling steam from a cup of hot water. This will help alleviate the immediate surface of the wear-and-tear on the edge of your vocal folds.
The most important way that is effective even prevent vocal tension happening is to learn the correct way of projecting your voice. Most people use their throats too much, which creates pressure on their vocal folds (cable) and can cause permanent damage if it continues. To project your voice, you need to breathe deeply to support your projections, that is to breathe with your diaphragm support, and the power of your voice by means of resonance. This way, you will never have to worry about straining your throat.
