Health Risks of High Heels

This is not really surprising that high heels have become a very important part of the lives of women. One reason is because they have been regarded as a symbol of style, fashion, and professionalism. However, as stylish, fashionable, and professional they are, they are not really friendly to the health of your legs and hips, back, and knees. Here are some of the health risks of high heels:

1. They force your legs constantly in the down position (plantar flexion)
This makes the vertical distance between the toes and your knee is longer than the distance between the heel and knee. As a result, the Achilles tendon and calf muscles you shorten constantly. In the long run, they will lose their flexibility and you will experience stiffness in your calf.

2. They change the way you walk
Your legs lose some or all of their ability to push your body when you make the move because they are already in a downward (flexed) position. This puts more pressure on the muscles of your hip flexors contract and lift your feet while also preventing hip flexor muscles you to fully stretch after contraction due to the shorter distance between the heel and hip. In the end, the hip flexor muscles you can lose them because of the flexibility and long continued contraction.

3. They shift your balance to your feet
As a result, the lower body will naturally lean forward to counteract this. Furthermore, the upper body is forced to lean over backwards to keep your whole body in balance. This creates abnormalities in the curvature of the back which, together with stiffness or muscle imbalance in the thigh and calf, puts you at high risk of developing back pain.

4. They also imbalance with design
Design high-heeled shoes put too much pressure on the ankle and knee to balance your body. With high heels, there is a natural tendency to change the outer ankle and knee. Due to the work of your lower leg muscles have limited, this burden will be placed on your knees, especially the inside of the knee. In the long run, you may develop an abnormal condition called osteoarthritis. That is why the condition is much more common in women.

As bad as the risk may sound, you are doomed if you have to wear high heels all the time and have some or all of the above problems. With carefully designed routine stretching and exercise program, you can re-balance muscle imbalances and your structure.

Finally, wearing high heels can make you look professional, fashionable, and stylish. However, you do not have to look professional at all times when fashion and style do not have to put on top of your health. Therefore, when it comes to footwear, it is best to wear flat shoes as much as possible and keep high heels for special occasions such as a career professional or important events and large weddings or parties.
