The Benefits of Reading

Between work and family, it is difficult to find any motivation to find the time to sit and read for a long time. In fact, the average American only read about five books a year. With countless people read only posting social media, text messaging, and email, the benefits of reading being unreaped. But there are many out there, and many of them will surprise you.

1) Reading Prevent Dementia and Alzheimer's

Studies show that doing things like reading a creative and stimulating the mind making function again. Such as exercise for the body, stimulating the brain to prevent the signs of aging, including diseases common to the elderly. Not only can diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer delayed for a very long time, but it can also be prevented altogether in some cases.

2) Increase Your Memory Retention

When you read the book, you need to keep all the plotlines and characters in your head as you gather new information you save the page to change. It actually strengthens the synapses in your brain the more you do this so that you can remember more generally.

3) Reading Makes You More Empathy

When you read anything with the point of view, be it a memoir, a novel or a personal essay, you put yourself in the position of the narrator and you can see things with their point of view, including their flaws, good points, and in most case back story. This can allow you to empathize with other people in your life, even annoying co-workers who can not stop complaining.

4) Reduce Your Stress

Another of the many benefits of reading is stress reduction. When reading an interesting piece, everything around you melt away, even your problem. You will be completely focused on the story or information that will calm you and make you happy, especially if you read something happy and warm. And when you've finished reading, you may be calm enough to look at your problem again from a different angle.

5) Reduce Loneliness and other symptoms of Depression

When you read a novel you develop some sort of relationship with the characters. Although there is only one on ink and paper, you are still connected with the character. Sometimes you even on their heads. This reduces feelings of loneliness because you feel connected to the characters. It also reduces the feeling of sadness and exhaustion when you read something happy and stimulating. There is nothing like a piece of effective writing funny describe events at a family reunion to lift the mood. It can remind you of good memories of your own from friends or family get togethers and for others, like me, you can experience the fantasy of the ideal family together that might never happen in real life. When I need a good pick-me-up, I personally chose the romantic novels are often mild and takes place in a world where good always wins. (Unless you read Nicholas Sparks. Then there's death after happily ever after.)

These five are not even count for half of the many benefits that you can get from reading. Unfortunately, hardly enough people make it a habit to read on a regular basis because they find it too boring or time consuming to make time for. The trick is to find a good book that will interest you, regardless of how "intellectual" they thought. Instead of roaming the Amazon to read reviews that often questionable at best, find blogs that review of the book in the genre that you like, or one that covers many genres. Below are two great resources that will help you find your next great read.
