Bitter melon is a valuable herb gifted to us by Mother Nature. It is also known as bitter gourd, bitter cucumber, karolla and karela. It is rich in iron, beta-carotene and potassium. It also contains Vitamin B1, B2, B3 and C, phosphorous and fiber.

o Bitter melon is worldwide known for its effectiveness in treating diabetes. Bitter melon contains a chemical compound that is very similar to insulin and sometimes also referred as p-insulin. Research has shown that when taken continuously for some period has the ability to replace insulin in the body. It also contains steroidal saponins called charantin, peptides similar to the peptides and certain alkaloids that effectively control blood sugar levels.

o Bitter melon is also good digestive agent and helps in stimulating the secretion of gastric acid. This is very helpful in stimulating liver for secretion of bile which is very important for the metabolism of fat. It helps in improving the peristaltic movements hence is very helpful in avoiding gastric disturbances.
